"Let's Build a Snowman"

I wanted to share some sweet little people with you tonight!  Some of our little friends went outside today and built a snowman.  It was absolutely adorable!!  Below you will see their very special snowman and a couple of my very special little ones!  Enjoy!

What a little sweetie!!  Look at the delight on this little guys face!  Love it!

Let's kiss a snowman!!  You go girl!  (side note:  I was told the head rolled off after the kiss.  Too cute!)

Snow Guys and Gals!!

Today we finished up our snow guys and gals.  They really are adorable!  In the Art Center last week and this week the little people worked on their giant torn paper snowballs.  Today we finished them up by adding carrot noses, eyes, mouths and scarves.  Their creations turned out just precious!!  These little people rock!!  Gotta love 'em!

"How to Build a Snowman"

The little people and I have been learning all about snowmen this week.  Monday we brainstormed a list of things you would need to build a snowman and read several exciting books!  One of our favorites was "Snowmen at Night" by Caralyn Buehner.  Today was read another book by Ms. Buehner on the Smartboard called "Snowmen all Year".  They are super excited about her latest book "Snowmen at Work" which we're going to read tomorrow.  Hidden within the illustrations of the books are other little pictures.  It was a lot of fun looking for the hidden pictures today on the Smartboard.  

Sequencing is one of the goals on our report card in kindergarten.  So, for writing yesterday and today the little people wrote steps for building a snowman.  They are doing an excellent job stretching out their words or using their resources within the classroom to find words they might need in their writing.  Here are a couple of their pieces! 

 (First, roll three snowball. And mittens, eyes and broom.  Next, I will give him a scarf, and hot cocoa and some boots.  Then, a snowflake pipe.  Last, the snow falls down on me.)

Then, we need to get eyes.  Last, get a mouth.)

Questioning and Inferring!!

Questioning and Inferring!  Two wonderful comprehension strategies we've been working on in kindergarten this year.  Last Thursday we started our Snowman Unit.  To begin I had the little people ask me "20 Questions" about what was inside my mystery box.  Each question could only be answered with either a "yes" or a "no".  They asked some excellent questions and gained evidence about what was inside of my box.  After they asked me their questions they recorded 4 pieces of evidence they knew about the mysterious item.  Their final task was to draw a conclusion or inference about what they thought was inside the mystery box.  I thought I'd share 3 examples with you.  It's funny they were all able to figure out the mystery.  Such good question askers!!
