Ahoy Mateys!!  This past Wednesday was "Talk Like a Pirate Day" and we had so much fun talking like pirates.  Aaargh! Aaargh!  Aaargh!  I am amazed everyday how thoughtful and caring many of the children are.  We read a very special book called "How Full is Your Bucket?" today and they were so cute filling each others buckets with kind deeds.  Below you will find pictures of our craftivity that went along with the book.  They are incredibly adorable!!  See for yourselves!

It's time for our first Book Order.  Each month I will send home book orders for you and your child to look through.  Please do not feel as if you must order books.

However, if you would like to order books you can do it one of two ways.  You can return the order forms filled out and with a check made out to: Scholastic Book Clubs in the amount of your total order, whether you are ordering from one form or 3.  Please return the order forms and payment to me by September 17th.

Thank you to all of the families that were able to come to Open House tonight!  We had a wonderful turnout and I'm hoping my little explanation of our day was helpful.

Wow! Today was our first full day, whew!  Let's just say we made it and no one fell asleep.  We were all getting a little limp by the end of the day, but we finished up with centers, so all was good!!

Open House is this Thursday and we have been very busy working on our names and different activities centered around them.  I loved the way our "rainbow" names turned out and we also made paper self portraits.  They were a stitch!!  Too cute!  The first picture is of "Our Classroom Family" wall.  However, with 26 little angels  they wouldn't all fit on the same wall.  So, the other half are on the opposite wall.  The pictures after "Our Classroom Family" are a couple of samples of individual students, so you can see how our portraits turned out.

We also enjoyed "Chicka Chicka, Boom Boom!" several times today.  Our chicka trees are adorable, even if they don't totally look like trees!  They brought many smiles to my face today!  I couldn't believe how many children had "y's" in their names and boy did we have a hard time finding those "y's".  Let me know what you think, lol!!  Precious!!

Hola!  Below you will find a copy of our classroom schedule.  Please note that we have P.E. (purple highlighted area) with Mr. Pryor on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.  If your child doesn't wear tennis shoes on those days, please send them to school in their book bags.  They will change into them first thing in the morning and after P.E. they will change back into their other shoes.  No need to worry on the days we have P.E. in the classroom.  Our classroom P.E. will consist of doing Brain Gym activities and movements to song, usually with Dr. Jean.  Dr. Jean is a former teacher who inspires many of us across the country with her engaging songs and creative activities making teaching and learning FUN!   

Each day your child will be a part of SUCCESS (yellow highlighted area). During SUCCESS, your child will work with one of the 9 SUCCESS instructors.  This is a time when the children have the opportunity to work in small group focusing on an area of need.  For example, your child might be struggling with letter identification or letter sounds.  So, during SUCCESS your child along with a few other children will work on these skills.  Once they master these skills they will move onto a new area of focus.  SUCCESS is 30 minutes each day (from 10:25-10:55) and every two weeks the different instructors get together to discuss student growth and concerns.  These groups are fluid, in other words, they are constantly changing based on needs.

We have Library with Mrs. Wilson on Wednesday mornings from 8:35-9:00.  Mrs. Wilson will go over the library procedures and rules with your children.  They will also be able to check out books to bring home from the school library.  Yeah!!

Please note:  On the first three Wednesdays each month we will have a special speaker (from 1:40-2:10).  The first Wednesday each month will be Shirley Marshall, the children's librarian from Parlin Ingersoll Library.  She will share new and exciting books which can be checked out at the public library.  The second Wednesday each month will feature Tonya Holt.  Tonya will share Ag in the classroom activities with your child.  And, the third Wednesday each month will be Patty Wiegers.  Patty will be sharing information on nutrition with the children. 

 

Our Music time is on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.  The children will have Music in our classroom with a music teacher.  Their Music teacher this year will be Mrs. Dever.
